Sexual harassment should have no place in any organisation, but it remains a widespread and damaging issue. Research shows that 40% of women and 18% of men experienced unwanted sexual behaviour at work within a 12 month period.
Sexual harassment can have a serious impact on individuals. It can destroy self-esteem and cause anxiety, depression and other severe mental and physical symptoms.
Within a work context, it can also have a significant secondary effect on organisations - reducing productivity, performance and team cohesion, and being a catalyst for people leaving. Companies can also face significant legal challenges and financial penalties if they don’t take all reasonable steps to prevent it.
